Parent's
and children's comments
"Since my little
boy has been having chiropractic treatment he is calmer, no longer
wakes at night agitated, and is completely off his hyperactivity medication.
I am so pleased"
Mother
of a 7 year-old boy with Attention Deficit Disorder
"He is so different
since seeing a chiropractor. He was always clumsy, loving one minute
and very aggressive the next. He is always loving now and he remembers
things he never used to. His teacher says he is a different boy."
Mother
of a 9 year-old boy with headaches and poor co-ordination.
"Before I came
to see my chiropractor I couldn't kick a ball and now I can. I have
been asked to play on the football team."
Boy
"We've both
had chiropractic treatment for years and wanted our baby checked
over."

Case Studies
A remarkable
case, of a 15-year-old boy, whose bone growth was delayed by two
years. He came to the chiropractor who learnt that he had been delivered
face up, and deduced that the resulting misalignments of his skull
and facial bones could be affecting his pituitary gland. After six
treatments he had grown two and a half inches, and his face had
noticeably changed shape for the better.
A 15-month-old
girl, with persistent night coughing, was diagnosed as asthmatic
and prescribed Ventolin, though she never used this. After three
chiropractic treatments she had no more asthmatic coughing; this
improvement had been maintained when she had a check-up at the age
of five.
One desperate mother
took her 8-year-old daughter to a chiropractor, suffering from lack
of co-ordination, reading difficulties, hyperactivity and bed-wetting.
After seven treatments she improved considerably. The mother was not
convinced that her improvement related to the child's spine. After
her daughter had a fall, her behaviour regressed, but once again settled
after chiropractic treatment. This time the mother had to acknowledge
that chiropractic was responsible.
Baby Bobbi
Baby Bobbi
was brought to the clinic at the age of six months. Her mother was
worried by her poor weight gain and reported that Bobbi fell asleep
at the breast. The baby was very sickly and possetted all the time
(possetting is a term used for babies who spit out mouthfuls of milk).
This was being treated by the GP with Infracol colic drops. She also
had difficulty breathing, as she was 'snuffly'. A friend of the mother
had received successful treatment for her daughter with a sleeping
problem and she recommended a chiropractic clinic to the mother.
At the first appointment the chiropractor took a detailed case history
including questions about the mother's health, the health of other
family members as well as questions about the pregnancy and the baby's
birth. The mother had in fact experienced a difficult pregnancy and
had suffered from high blood pressure. A steroid injection had been
administered prior to the birth to help mature the baby's lungs and
after a short labour the baby was delivered with the umbilical cord
around her neck.
The chiropractor's assessment of the baby revealed limited head rotation
and weakness of the right arm with delayed weak reflexes in that limb.
It was observed that the baby's head was not steady and the baby did
a rocking movement with her head. She also had a weak suck and wax
was running from her left ear. The baby also has torticollic (wryneck)
on the left side and cried immediately whenever she turned her head
to the right.
A treatment plan was discussed with and agreed by the mother and consent
was given for treatment to begin. The baby received her first chiropractic
treatment and the mother was given advice on how she could help her
baby's recovery between treatments.
Immediately after the first treatment the baby's suck improved by
100%. Between the first and second treatments the baby slept consistently
well for six hours every night, having also had disturbed sleep prior
to treatment. Possetting reduced and the Infracol was discontinued
with the GP's agreement. As a result of these improvements in the
baby, the mother was gaining more confidence and the rest of the family
was noticing the benefits of a happier baby and restored sleep.
After these three treatments, a new treatment was discussed, addressing
more particularly the toricollis and weak right arm. Between chiropractic
treatments the mother was encourage to follow a distraction routine
specifically designed for the baby. Over the following three weeks,
the baby started using her right arm in a more appropriate way and
was able to grasp more readily with her fingers and hand of the right
arm.
By the end of this treatment plan, normal head movement was restored
and the baby was able to make full use of her head, neck and both
hands. This was of great importance at this stage of rapid development
for the a baby. Chiropractic treatment by this time was once a month
to ensure continuing progress. When last seen by her chiropractor
at 14 moths of age, Bobbi was walking, babbling and at the correct
stage of development for her age.
